What is it about?

Outcomes of wellbeing and health are shaped in the first years of a child's life, and are supported by early intervention. Many families, however, face barriers when seeking needed support. Through this needs assessment we sought to gather existing international knowledge, and to listen to community priorities and concerns in one local government area in Western Australia. Findings give a foundation on which to build a relevant community hub.

Why is it important?

There is an internationally recognised gap in sustaining access to linked up care for families of young children in community hubs. The combined findings are important to empowering families through a relevant and safe place of support. They are also important to building a research base that will support ongoing growth locally and into other communities.

Perspectives

This needs assessment identified a priority for a relational model of integrated care, co-designed in shared vision with the community. In order to support cycles of evidence-based evaluation and action, there is a need for evidence-based measures to evaluate how safe families feel when accessing services. Key areas of focus include cultural safety and trauma informed care.
