Why is it important?

The goal of this paper was to help identify the best surgical approach for treating patients with metastatic melanoma of the head and neck.

Perspectives

Because of the complex and important anatomy of the head and neck it is important to understand the best surgical approaches for removing metastatic melanoma. This publication supports the notion that it is better to perform complete removal of lymph nodes at risk for developing metastatic disease. By performing complete removal of all nodes at risk the rate of developing recurrent disease can be lowered.
