What is it about?

Aim: To evaluate the influence of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)/Dementia on delirium phenotype to discern the most differentiating delirium symptoms for SNF staff to solicit to suspect delirium

Featured Image

Why is it important?

-MCI and dementia are prevalent in skilled nursing facilities (SNF), confounding delirium detection -Delirium patients in SNF settings are more than twice as likely to remain in the SNF after 90 days -Better recognition and management of delirium in SNF could reduce resource‐intensive transfers to hospitals

Perspectives

-Assessment of fluctuation of non specific behaviors do not differentiate delirium from dementia. -Attention, language, and sleep‐wake cycle differentiate delirium from MCI/Dementia. -Brief/simple tools measuring these three symptoms in SNF are needed.
