What is it about?

Great earthquakes caused the fall of the Sanxingdui and Jinsha civilizations in central China

Why is it important?

We sdemonstrate that strong earthquakes along the LSTB were the primary factors leading to the collapse of the Sanxingsui and Jinsha civilizations. Future paleoseismic and geoarchaeological research is needed to test this hypothesis.

Perspectives

Prof. A. Lin has been working on earthquake geology and active Neotectonism. He is particularly interested in the rupture dynamics and mechanics of large earthquakes, tectonic history of active faults, relationship between the fall of ancient civilizations and large earthquakes, and formation mechanisms of fault rocks generated in seismogenic fault zones from brittle to ductile regimes.
