What is it about?
This study evaluated the antidiabetic activity of Mangifera indica (mango) kernel flour-supplemented diet in rats. The M. indica kernel flour had antidiabetic effects on type 2 diabetic rats, probably due the its richness in flavonoids and phenolic acids. The M. indica kernel flour could therefore be a nutraceutical remedy for type 2 diabetes.

Why is it important?
The use of M. indica kernel, an agro-waste product, but rich in flavonoids and phenolic acids and possessing antidiabetic activity, can be an affordable management strategy for type 2 diabetes.
Perspectives
The finding of this study, being the first report on the antidiabetic effect M. indica kernel flour, is quite revealing. It should be explored to develop an affordable treatment for type 2 diabetes.
