What is it about?

Comparison of the composition of the essential oils of lavenders and thymes from Spain, also the antioxidant and antienzymatic properties on lipoxygenase and hyaluronidase have been assessed

Why is it important?

The chemical characterisation is done thoroughly detailing the absolute concentration of the components and the antioxidant activity has been assessed using a wide range of methodologies. Finally, the activity of the essential oils to inhibit both enzymes, lipoxygenase and hyaluronidase has been determined positively. Lipoxygenase is related to many inflammatory diseases and some degenerative neurological diseases and hyaluronidase is related to skin ageing and cancer cells progression.

Perspectives

This publication has some important points related to the rest of publications of the field: the chemical characterisation has been done very thoroughly and many antioxidant methods have been used, this is important to understand all the antioxidant possibilities as well as to link the possible antioxidant and antienzymatic compounds in each essential oil.
