What is it about?

In this work, the standard EAP-AKA` protocol was enhanced, and two re-authentication protocols for inter-handover and intra-handover in LTE-WLAN interworking architecture were proposed. A new method to protect the user identity has been proposed. Compared with the standard full and fast authentication protocols, the proposed protocols reduce the authentication delay, storage overhead and signalling cost, which significantly contribute in reducing the handover delay and cost. In addition, the energy consumed to perform the authentication process is reduced. From the security point of view, the proposed protocols satisfy all authentication requirements. The results from AVISPA verification tools showed that they prevent all types of active and passive authentication attacks.

Why is it important?

It introduce the improved EAP-AKA protocol for first time. It protects the user identity. It reduces the handover delay, energy consumption and signaling cost.

Perspectives

Thank you so much to Wiley to give me this opportunity to publish my work. It is a good work in this area, however it needs to be extended to involve other wireless networks and evaluated additional tools.
