What is it about?

Light-harvesting systems, i.e. arrays with multiple dye molecules require that the individual antenna molecules are arranged in a spatially well-defined manner. The triptycene scaffold offers this possibility with its rigid core, which presents attached dye molecules in a three-fold, 120 degree, orientation. Here we describe methods how to attache BODIPY residues to triptycenes and how to link porphyrin units with peripheral triptycene moieties as well.
