What is it about?

This paper documents a shift in the types of statistical analyses and statistical programs that are being used in ecological (and most other fields) research. It also documents a serious gap between the approaches and tool that doctoral programs are requiring and the cutting edge tools being used in practice. The paper discusses the reasons for this evolution in ecological statistics, implications for ecological research, and discusses some changes in pedagogy that could help advance the field.
