What is it about?
Zebrafish brain has a remarkable capacity for adult neurogenesis and brain regeneration, owing to a large number of neural stem cell niches that are distributed throughout its rostrocaudal axis. Understanding the nature of the cells constituting these stem cell niches and the molecular cues regulating their activity and function may hold the key to a decisive victory in a long fought battle against neurodegenerative diseases. Here we present a summary of our current understanding of the cellular composition and molecular profile of neural stem cell niches in the adult zebrafish brain.
