What is it about?

To examine RBC deformability through mirochannel flow with minim amount of blood volume. The proposed e\device is commercially available (RheoScan).

Why is it important?

RBC deformability is closely related with microcirculatory capability through capillaries. Thus, diabetic complications such as DM nephropathy and DM retinopathy are strongly correlated with reduction of RBC deformability.

Perspectives

Considering other hemorheologic parameters such as critical shear stress, clinical validation is strongly recommended.
