What is it about?
The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between overall survival and other clinical outcomes in patients with prostate cancer. Further, we conducted sub-group analyses of the correlation of overall survival. Our study has suggested that progression-free survival is a potential surrogate endpoint of overall survival in clinical trials for patients with prostate cancer. It has also suggested potential surrogate endpoints for castration-resistant prostate cancer and locally advanced prostate cancer etc.

Why is it important?
We performed a comprehensive literature search for clinical trials for patients with prostate cancer and examined the correlation between OS and the other endpoints. Our results suggested that progression-free survival is a potential surrogate endpoint of overall survival. It also suggested potential surrogate endpoints for castration-resistant prostate cancer and locally advanced prostate cancer. We presented interpretation of results of clinical trials where a surrogate endpoint is used and a possibility and adequacy of surrogate endpoints meeting the approval requirements when conducting clinical trials for prostate cancer in the future.
Perspectives
Our study has suggested that progression-free survival is a potential surrogate endpoint of overall survival in clinical trials for patients with prostate cancer. It has also suggested potential surrogate endpoints for castration-resistant prostate cancer and locally advanced prostate cancer etc.
