What is it about?

Advantages of HVDC connections in combination with cables layed underground or in seabed are shown. HVDC links within a synchronous AC electricity system can be used to increase of security of supply in case of a system split. Examples for costs of transmission are given. The figures show that electricity transmission costs in high density populated areas with long distances are no more neclectable compared to production costs.

Why is it important?

The costs of transmission via AC and DC with overhead and underground cables are compared. These costs are shown dependent on distance and usage factor.
