What is it about?

Since 1964 when alkylresorcinols (resorcinolic lipids) were for the first time described in gramineaceous plants, especially cereal grains the interest in their biological activities is rising. This is related to dietary suggestions on beneficial role of whole grain diet in human nutrition. In this work we were describing state of art in the field by 1998.

Why is it important?

In fact this is the first and most broad and comprehensive review from chemical (JHP Tyman) and biological (A Kozubek) points of interest on resorcinolic lipids (alkylresorcinols, 5-alk(en)yl-1,3 dihydroxybenzenes, 1,3-benzene diols-5 alk(en)yl). This work became "the must" to everybody entering the field of cereal diet and human nutrition. Although the studies on them is not a big field, this work is the most cited article (WoS).
