What is it about?

Information about the mechanism of the Biginelli reaction is obtained through the observation of solvent effects and the performance of different types of catalyst. This helps optimise this historical but still useful method of producing molecular templates for drug design. p-Cymene is found to provide a superior reaction medium to ethanol and traditional solvents. p-CYmene is obtained from the limonene in waste citrus peel.
