What is it about?

The chemometric methods were used in the more in-depth analysis of the studied chromatographic data from the measurements of lipophilicity for twenty one newly synthesized 3-(4-substituted benzyl)-cycloalkylspiro-5-hidantoin derivatives.

Why is it important?

The most important novelty of this paper is the focus on understanding the interactions in aqueous systems and lipophilicity. So in the study discussed two liquid chromatography techniques, TLC and HPLC, were used to determine lipophilicity for 21 newly synthesized spirohydantoin derivatives.

Perspectives

The evaluation of similarities between structure and lipophilicity are important for both our theoretical understanding of biomolecular mechanisms and its application to modern, structure-based drug design. In the case of investigated spirohydantoins this is even more important since preliminary in vitro measurements indivated antiproliferative activity for cyclohexanespiro-5-hydantoins and cycloheptanespiro-5-hydantoins against cell lines of human cancer (K562 - human leukemia and HCT-116 - colon cancer).
