What is it about?

premature infants are concerned by many complications such a persistence of an artery called ductus arteriosus. We described a simple method to close it with a plug by interventional catheterism, an alternative to surgery.

Why is it important?

This experience is unique and concerns very small infants, in average the weight was 1300 grams on 32 premature infants. At the moment more than hundred premature have been closes by this technic in France. the smallest was 700 g and the weight is not a limit. It takes about 10 minutes to complete the procedure.

Perspectives

the perspective is probably to care earlier-7 to 15 days- this problem and to improve the outcome of these small infants mainly to prevent lung diseases.
