What is it about?

This study finds that audience members are less likely to justify systems that oppress women and are more likely to engage in gender-based activism after viewing a feminist performance. This study is also the first, to our knowledge, to provide a reliable measure for virtual activism.

Why is it important?

This study demonstrates the power of theatre as a tool for communicating oppression, inspiring new imagined realities, and encouraging participation in collective action to a make a more just world.

Perspectives

I loved working on this project. The performances were incredibly moving and the results of the study give me hope - especially in our current time - that there are ways to encourage people to question the world that they live in and to act to change that world to a more just one.
