Why is it important?

As a large proportion of the U.S. population grows older, cancer incidence rates will increase. Unfortunately, the oncology workforce is currently not sufficient to care for the large numbers. Currently nurse practitioners (NP) provide an unknown amount of oncology care, this literature review examines what is known about the care currently provided by NPs to patients with cancer.

Perspectives

As a hematology/oncology nurse practitioner, I have seen first hand the powerful impact advanced practice providers can have on patient care, and augmenting and enhancing large health care systems. My research interest is focused on maximizing our workforce resources to improve the value of providing cancer care.
