What is it about?

Spermaozoa when ejaculated need to be activated to be able to fertilse the female's egg. Stimulating the clitoris creates changes in the females genital tract that facilitates these modifications which gives the sperms the capacity to fertilise the egg of the female.

Why is it important?

Previoulsy the only function of the clitoris that has ever been proposed was its stimulation of pleasurable sexual arousal of the female. It is now obvious that it also has an important reproductive function.

Perspectives

The new finding makes the clitoris even more important to women than just as a stimulator of sexual pleasure. Both the pleasure function and the reproductive function are now of equal value.
