What is it about?
This article explores the functional role of technology-based start-ups in supporting the implementation of sustainable agriculture practices using empirical cases in Indonesia. The function occurs in three categories of contribution to the agriculture system. This work also discusses various risks faced by the start-ups in the implementation and highlights the potential consequences of how the disappearance of start-ups from the agriculture system or the inhibition of their business can reduce or hinder the performance of sustainable agriculture practices.

Why is it important?
This paper provides insights concerning the development of the agriculture sector, which has a crucial role regarding food security, through the implementation of sustainable agriculture, with particular highlights on the role of technology-based start-ups. This work also provides practical implications about the start-up’s management, governance, and policy at national or global levels to maintain the corporate sustainability of the start-ups so that they can provide more significant sustainability benefits.
