Why is it important?
There is a great requirement and potential for social innovation in the tourism and hospitality sector. Due to structural issues such as demographics and ageing, it is vital to alter social policies and find an economic answer to social requirements. In practice, social innovations can take the shape of new organizational structures as well as specific ideas, activities, frameworks, models, systems, processes, and services. New social processes should be adopted that emphasize changes in social relations and are often aimed at rebalancing the power gap and economic inequalities in society. We expect that by following this strategy, tourist departments may add to the subject of social and environmental innovation by leveraging community innovators' wealth of expertise to prevent myopia and blunders.
Perspectives
This study holds an important place in the contemporary developments taking place in the hospitality and tourism sector by discussing the relevance of social and environmental innovation using the perceptions of local residents residing near the tourism destinations. The results advocate that innovative services have to be worked upon by the tourism industry and that the progress of these services must include collaboration and involvement of the local communities.
