Why is it important?

Understanding how the brain changes with age and how this is refelcted in behavior gives valueble insights into the process of aging and the mechanisms behind higher cognitive functions.

Perspectives

Medical advances and the increasing focus on healthier living has allowed for higher life expectancy, and with that the prevalence of age-related deficits and diseases. Neuroscience has unraveled a complex machinery of communicating brain regions and networks that subserve higher cognitive functions such as attention; this study uses functional neuroimaging in an attempt to investigate the age-related brain network changes that underlie the ability to maintain visual attention.
