What is it about?

We modified the catalytic properties of an artificial enzyme - ribozyme ligase, to convert it into an efficient tool for detecting interactions between varieties of molecules in solution.

Why is it important?

Ribozyme ligation may facilitate the process of discovery of active substances that bind to molecular targets, such as proteins, DNA, etc., and modify their properties, for instance, by preventing the formation of protein-protein complexes. Preventing protein-protein interactions by pharmacological agents represents an important novel avenue for treating a range of currently intractable diseases.
