What is it about?

The axial and polar modes for the ring down of a Schwarzschild black hole are calculated using an r-dependent mass-function. We were able to reach up to 500 iterations, obtaining for the first time convergence for a wide range of large damping modes.

Why is it important?

It is of utmost importance to know the distribution of the gravitational wave modes, in special for the tests of extended theories of gravitation as investigated in this contribution.

Perspectives

The study of gravitational waves is also important in the context of deducing from NS-NS and NS-BH mergers (NS = Neutron Star, BH = Black Hole), which terminate in a BH, the equation of state within a NS, which needs the information of which frequencies (as, for example, ring down modes) are possible. In a future publication, we will address the modified pc-Kerr metric, which is more involved.
