What is it about?

Measuring how well staff performed exploratory search tasks using an enterprise search engine. How 'well' exploratory searches are performed is typically not known to searcher or management. Assess impact of a task that generated a perception of information overload. Comparing to their levels of self reported user satisfaction, search expertise and personality.

Why is it important?

Performance was fed back to both searchers and business management. The surprise given at the poor performance, indicates existence of potential flawed beliefs and mental models in the enterprise. Opportunities are presented to improve enterprise search and discovery capability. The methodology could be used to improve learning within organizations.
