What is it about?
This study was designed to answer one research question: “What are the elements and strategies that are effective in teaching surface anatomy?” Based on our scoping review, several elements of effective teaching strategies for surface anatomy were identified and recommended for better surface anatomy education.

Why is it important?
To become competent physicians, medical students must master surface anatomy. However, surface anatomy is less emphasized in medical and allied health science curricula. Hence, it is pertinent for educators to understand and adopt effective pedagogical strategies in surface anatomy education.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long-standing collaboration. I hope this paper will contribute to the improvement in the current surface anatomy education.
