What is it about?

Date pit is a remnant that is left after consuming the fleshy part of date fruit. Presently, the pits do not have much economic importance as individual raw material and therefore constitute a sizeable percentage of domestic and industrial solid wastes particularly in the Middle East and North Africa. For example, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was ranked among the top ten date producing countries in the world. The Kingdom has about 23 million trees across 172,000 ha, producing 1.3 million tonnes of dates. Moreover, the Kingdom is among the top world producers of oil and gas. This work is therefore focused on the utilization of the huge by-products from date processing industries for natural gas processing. It is an attempt to integrate the by-products of the local industries into the production and processing of oil and gas. A successful creation of a synergy between hydrocarbon processing and agriculture by-products can lead to smart way of solid waste management and cost effective oil and gas production.
