Why is it important?

Since decades, plant/bacteria interactions have been investigated, but the molecular mechanisms underlying symbiosis remain unclear for many systems. We have isolated an aminocyclitol from such a symbiosis and prepared it in synthetic form. We have also shown that it is toxic to certain insects, which could point to its ecological role.
