Why is it important?

Trisomy 21, Down syndrome, is the most common genetic cause of intellectual disability. People with Down syndrome are living longer and are making contributions to our society. The ability to perform well depends in part upon good health care. Prevention saves health dollars. Having well vetted guidelines will be a major contributor to good health care.

Perspectives

All, or nearly all, healthcare providers see individuals with Down syndrome. Knowing what preventative strategies to use will help this population and which ones not to use may also save healthcare dollars. This article starts the process of developing evidence-based guidelines.
