Peasant colonists to uninhabited territores will increase their fertility, and those who decide to do agriculture as a bussiness will have lower fertility than those who practice subsistence agriculture. Data from the tropical forest in Calakmul, Campeche, Mexico.

Why is it important?

It shows how household decisions to practice commercial agriculture will reduce fertility. To date I am unaware of data that will show this at a household level.

Perspectives

It is a paper that tries to explain human choices, in this case reproductive behavior, as the result of an overall adaptive strategy.
