What is it about?

Controlling the structure of organic semiconductors is important to understand and control their properties. Copper iodide (CuI) films have been shown to influence the structure of one type of organic semiconductor, phthalocyanines, and here we prepare large copper iodide crystals to help understand why and how these changes occur.

Why is it important?

This is the first time copper iodide single crystals with high quality surfaces have been prepared, characterized and used as templates for controlled growth of a non-planar phthalocyanine on top. The data we present will provide the foundations for understanding and designing highly crystalline phthalocyanine layers for applications such as transistors and solar cells.
