What is it about?
Nematics are the simplest and by far the most commonly used Liquid Crystals. Introducing bistability, whereby the image is retained without power, into a nematic was a holy-grail of LCD for sometime, since it would allow highly complex images to be written line by line without the need for an expensive TFT backplane. Now, they are used where ultralow power is required, such as in smart labels.
