What is it about?
Matthew Calbraith Perry (1794–1858) spent nearly fifty years in the US Navy as a midshipman and officer. His most noteworthy achievement was his leadership of the US expedition that successfully negotiated the Treaty of Kanagawa (1854) and opened relations between the United States and Japan.
