Why is it important?

When it was written in 2010 many of these efforts were nascent, even the thought of blogging on chemistry was pretty fresh, and open science ideas were relatively recent. This chapter represents and early effort to reconcile the technologies with the need for collaboration.

Perspectives

This is one of several chapters that were written collaboratively for the book. This describes essentially all the efforts we were seeing at the time from crowdsourcing to collaboratories.
