What is it about?
The behavior of storage reservoirs is influenced by some aspects of flood events, which determines their capability to attenuate the storm runoff discharge. Conversely, their performances allow to categorize flood severity. This is exploited to develop an estimate method of the flood return period in a bivariate case, where flood events are described by their peak flow discharge and their runoff volume.

Why is it important?
In this paper the possibility of exploiting a simplified strategy to estimate the bivariate return period of flood events is demonstrated. This strategy highly decreases the computational burden with respect to other solutions but does not diminish the assessment reliability.
Perspectives
I think this paper provides a straightforward and effective way to assess the performances of flood routing reservoirs, which is of interest not only for researchers but for practical engineering applications as well.
