What is it about?
The structure of the topside plasma at Mars is systematically analyzed to debunk popular theories that are purported to produce it. This topside layer is different than other plasma layers at Mars in that it is not solar controlled. The properties of this layer can provide insights to plasma dynamics to Mars.

Why is it important?
The upper atmosphere of Mars is the boundary to outer space. As such, the plasma in that region is poorly understood. Improving our understanding of the dynamics of plasma in that region reveals much about the rate of escape of species from the planet.
