What is it about?

We study the effect of pore fluid on the strength of limestone. Pore water can enhance some deformation mechanisms in calcite, leading to a change in the mechanical behavior of limestones.

Why is it important?

Water-weakening may be responsible for drilling platform failures, anomalous subsidence and water injection induced earthquakes.
