What is it about?
Segmental deformation is an important factor for shield tunnel, especially during construction. By applying wireless sensor network, we find two deformation modes of segmental linings. One is ovalization deformation and the other is whole rotation, which is ignored before. The relationship between construction parameters and rotation deformation is studied.

Why is it important?
A new deformation mode, whole rotation of segmental lining in shield tunnel during construction is found, which is important in life cycle assessment of shield tunnel performance. Two significant findings are that: a) load of cutter torque should be considered in tunnel structure design and b) quantity of whole rotation shows obvious correlation with cutter torque.
