What is it about?
N-hydroxyphthalimide effectively initiates oxidative polymerization of vinyl monomers
Featured Image
Why is it important?
N-hydroxyphthalimide initiates the reaction of vinyl compounds with O2 under mild conditions with the formation of an alternating copolymers of the monomers and oxygen.
Perspectives
The methodology of vinyl monomers oxidation based on the use of N-hydroxyphthalimide and molecular oxygen prevents the use of toxic metals or stoichiometric amounts of traditional oxidants, showing good economic and environmental advantages. Knowledge of the real mechanism of oxidative polymerization in the presence of N-hydroxyphthalimide is the key to developing more efficient strategies for the oxidation of unsaturated compounds.
