What is it about?
We propose a novel membership cloud-based trust evaluation model for vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) of transportation cyber-physical system (T-CPS). The proposed model considers the trust uncertainty of fuzziness and randomness in the interactions among vehicles and uses membership cloud to describe the uncertainty in unified formats. Besides, we give the detail description of trustworthiness as well as algorithm to calculate the cloud droplets and the aggregated trust evaluation values. An experiment of study case demonstrates that our trust model can perfectly describe trust relationship among vehicles from the quantitative data to the qualitative information, and also vice versa. Thus, our trust model can accurately describe the uncertainty of fuzziness and randomness of the trust relationships. Meanwhile, two typical scenarios simulation and comparison with other up to date models demonstrate the validity and practicality of our trust model among vehicles for VANET of T-CPS.

Why is it important?
For improving the security and guaranteeing the trusted interaction in the environment of transportation cyber-physical system (T-CPS), we should describe the trust relationship among vehicles and construct trust evaluation model of VANET. However, how to precisely describe the trust relationship among vehicles and construct trust evaluation model are the key problems.
Perspectives
We propose a novel membership cloud-based trust evaluation model in this paper. Unlike previous trust models, the proposed model considers the trust uncertainty of interaction and uses membership cloud to describe the uncertainty in a unified format. Besides, this paper gives the detail description of trustworthiness as well as algorithms to calculate the cloud droplets and aggregated trust evaluation values, because our trust model can perfectly describe the trust of the interaction among vehicles from the quantitative data to the qualitative information, and also vice versa.A case study, two experimental scenarios, and a comparison demonstrate that our trust model for VANET of T-CPS is practical and effective, and outperforms other up-to date compared models. Thus, choices and decision can be made more accurate and practical through considering our proposed trust model. As for the future work, we will continue to improve the membership cloud-based trust evaluation model, through adding more factors, such as cheating, reputation, and malicious attack, to construct more complex model for achieving more practical application.
