What is it about?

Humans have a natural curiosity but this is seldom used in schools. Teachers find it hard to use student questions for teaching. The greatest obstacle is that students need to learn specific content and their questions may not help to learn this. We searched for ways to help teachers to guide student questions to learn this content

Why is it important?

Learning to ask questions is a very useful skill for both daily life as well as for professional development. We found four factors which support student questioning: 1) We need confident teachers who can seek the possibilities of a student question for learning 2) teachers should use the main ideas of a topic as the focus for raising questions, 3) teachers should encourage students to raise and answer many questions together making learning an collective effort 4) teachers should use visual tools such as mind maps to support the questioning

Perspectives

Many teachers would like to encourage student questioning, but just don't know how. Findings in study provide clues to teacher how they could use student questions in a effective way.
