What is it about?

Two types of boundary layer clouds are observed in the tropics: shallow cumulus and stratocumulus clouds. This work ahows that they correspond to two distinct equilibria of the boundary layer, and that the transition from stratocumulus to cumulus is a transition between the basin of attraction of these two equilibria.
