What is it about?
Countries with large populations and high consumption of turmerics (zaffron) have shown lower numbers of COVID-19 than expected. Curcumin could regulate the expression of ACE-2 - the linking protein for the virus entrance into the human cell - and also inhibit infammatory cytokines which are increased in patients with moderate and severe forms of COVID‐19.

Why is it important?
We have discussed some of the reasons to conduct a randomized controlled trial with Curcumin to treat COVID-19 patients.
Perspectives
As the pandemic impact have been huge and we still don't have an effective drug or vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, we need to find other treatments that can avoid or limit the progression of the disease and the severe forms. Curcumin have been shown many anti-inflammatory mechanisms of action, combining a very high safety profile with relatively low costs.
