What is it about?

The research focused on understanding young Nigerians' motivation for selfie taking and sharing. Because selfie taking and sharing has become a fad among this particular group, we studied to know whether they are aware of the health implications of their obsession.

Why is it important?

Issues related to depression and suicide is on the increase in most societies of the world and this is recently common amongst young people. Obsession of taking multiple picture of self and regular sharing of same must be driven by a purpose and may engender some reactions.

Perspectives

The writing of this article was a response to observed phenomenon and a suspicion of obsession which may endanger innocent young people. We hope that the paper will call attention to possible dangers and engender interventions to keep our young population safe and health.
