What is it about?

Multisurface plasticity models require a robust integration procedure of the differential equations. This study proposes a robust implicit substepping integration scheme based on the Newton–Raphson method to solve an unconstrained optimization task.

Why is it important?

The presented results testify how the line search and substepping strategies applied in an implicit numerical integration scheme can improve the robustness of the nonlinear finite element analysis.

Perspectives

We aim to contribute to the application of complex constitutive models, with focus on multisurface plasticity ones. Our objective is to improve the convergence characteristics of the classical closest point projection algorithm using a line search method and a substepping scheme.
