What is it about?

Geospatial decision support systems (S-DSS) freely available via web are powerful tools for planners. The paper shows the implementation of a S-DSS of the soil sealing impacts on a inland area in the south of Italy. Scenario analysis on relevant issue (e.g rural fragmentation, loss of soil ecosystem services) could be directly and freely performed by planners.

Why is it important?

To our best knowledge, this is a unique operative tools allowing scenario analysis on soil sealing for many different users and freely available from the web.

Perspectives

The tool was developed with the help of end users and indirectly explores a change of paradigm where soil science and landscape/urban planning work together to provide operational instruments that may be adopted by local communities in addressing soil sealing issues with a proactive approach.
