What is it about?

The "four seasons" is a typical characteristic of Japanese weather. Using atmospheric structure and rainfall data, we investigate the climatological influences that give rise to this seasonal variability and identify typical weather and rainfall patterns.

Why is it important?

A large number of countries in South East Asia are affected by the summer monsoon season that can lead to considerable amounts of rainfall, creating a dangerous hazard. Here we used rawindsonde data to create typical profiles that can be used for modelling studies in order to better understand the conditions that lead to the generation of rainfall.
