What is it about?
Anthropometric markers such as weight and height might be inaccurate in children with chronic ilnesses, hence accurate biomarker are needed. The psoas muscle area can easily be measured in cross sectional imaging such as CT or MRI, and reference values from healthy children are needed to identify a potential target to improve pediatric care.

Why is it important?
The muscle is an importan metabolic organ in our body and age and sex specific reference values might facilitate pediatric precision medicine . Data from children and adults are highly suggestive for this theory.
Perspectives
With this study we add age and sex specific paediatric psoas muscle reference values at two established lumbar levels. This data will support research and clinical care of children with chronic disease.
