What is it about?

Our research examines how welcoming, community-based programs improve connection, wellbeing and access to services for children and families. This paper evaluates a playgroup model designed with families. The aim was to provide a safe place of support and empowerment for families of young children.

Why is it important?

Parents in our community spoke of loneliness, social isolation, and difficulty accessing support for young children, with an associated strain on parent wellbeing and child development. Social connection and early intervention are critical to the wellbeing of parents and children.

Perspectives

Playgroups often focus on children. Parents asked us to provide a playgroup space that extended the focus to support and empower parents.
